Macro-Lens iPhone hardware mod

Here's a pretty simple way to make the camera on your iPhone into a decent one. Create a macro-lens for your iPhone by taping a broken digital camera lens to the camera and attaching it with a paper clip. Pretty nice.

iPod Touch Pixelizer turns your iPod into abstract art
This iPod Touch "Pixelizer" filter by Franko Dodonpa is a really simple way to turn your Personal Media Player into a nice conversation piece at your next party. Plus it's a pretty simple project you can build in a few hours.

Insect Lore - bugs bugs bug kits

@The NYC Toy fair 2008 Insect Lore showed off their live butterfly, ladybug, silkworm and other insect kits for education / home use. You don't need to catch the Butterflies, they actually ship live caterpillars.

They also have an earthworm nursery, for some reason I really like the idea of kids raising worms... and of course wearing "bug watches" - what time is it? Bug time for the Entomologists.

Reuse your walkman's shell to hold an iPod

Remember this Sony walkman from the 1980s? I actually used to have one of these to play all my old tapes. Here's a nice hack that fits a standard iPod into the housing so that you can use your old housing without having to purchase an extra case for your MP3 player.

The Nanoscope, Apple TV from the 70's
At the very least, this is an interesting gadget to have sitting on your desk. The styling is cool and so is the external speaker so your friends can listen. However, the not so cool part is having to encode all your video's upside down. - Link

iPod "recycling" speakers

Here's a neat gadget and cool idea for a (re)make, instead of tossing the iPod packaging, use it as a speaker! -
Bird-Electron presents this one and only Recycling Speaker for iPod. The dimension is exactly the same as the plastic package for iPod Nano (1st & 2nd Gen.) and iPod Shuffle (2nd & 3rd Gen.). Simply just place the speaker panel on top of the open box, and plug it into the iPod and play. Bird-Electron's recycling speaker does not require any power source. You can also customize your own recycling speaker with any small container like a water bottle. Easy to install.Bird-Electron EZ17-B iPod Recycling Speaker - EZ17-B - Link.

Diamond iPhone adds bling to your conversations

This diamond iPhone was made with 420 cut diamonds and sports a total of 5.65 carats. Pretty crazy way to embellish technology that might be getting a major upgrade in the months ahead. We just wonder how many iPhones could be bought for the amount the diamonds are worth.

Origami iPhone stand
Here's a rather silly YouTube vid of a guy making an origami iPhone/iPod stand out of a $100 bill. Call me cheap, but I bet you'd get the same results with a $1 bill, or even a rectangle of paper. Lifehacker, where we found this, also points us to a similar, easier stand made out of a business card.

Exploded iPod still works, lacks portability

It's hard to believe this iPod actually still works. Encased in a cube of resin, it weighs a ton and loses all of its portability, but can still be charged and remotely controlled since its dock is also in the cube. Just don't try using the click wheel.

iPod cases inside of cassette tape shells, 45s

These iPod cases, made from cassette tape shells and 45 record vinyl, are commercial items, which cost US$45 each, but it'd be a cinch to replicate something similar, if you'd rather roll your own.

Simple iPhone jack hack

The iPhone's headphone jack in recessed so that most 3rd party headphones can't plug into it. But the hardware beyond the recession is apparently standard. To get at it, you can carve away the plastic housing to make it fit. Here, John Sullivan has cut the jack on his Etymotic ER-6 phones.

RC4560-based headphone amplifier

This SMD op-amp project uses the TI RC-4560 dual op-amp chip and a salt water-etched PCB. The builder got the op-amp as a free sample from Texas Instruments and scavenged all of the SMD resistors from old hard drive electronics. The results are not pretty, but they're functional. The circuit used (with some changes) is the Chu Moy design found here. The CMoy circuit is not SMD.
